Settle Down

Good Morning All.

You all are very well behaved and quiet.

My name is I and I am going to teach you PoE.

Moodle Page for this course.

Please take a look at the Moodle Page. You already have a compendium of the readings. The page for this course will contain the notes that I may upload. It won't contain readings. They are already available for you.

Office Hours are hours during which you can just walk in or ask for any help, meet with the instructor.

Make an appointment with me. I do suggest that you email me outside office hours. If I am working on something, I may not be able to attend to you.

So today I hope not to do very much.

Is this the scariest course?

How many of you have studied philosophy?

We will have a bit of epistemology.

Aesthetics ( how things appear ), ethics.

Topics such as The Learner, the human being, democracy, epistemology of education.

Fairly new and challenging. Challenging is good, you need to challenged. Philosophy shall test the skills that you have. Given our education system we don't come across philosophy. Children are capable of philosophical thinking.

" What the hell is going on? "
By the second sem you will be fine!

Ask for help whenever you need. Do speak to your seniors. Try doing that. Not a bad idea.

Where are you from, previous education, tell me verbally, something about you, or you can write on a sheet of paper
Little bit about yourself.

A very unfortunate things that happens at my stage is I forget names. I will remember you face but may forget your name. Please be good enough to know your name. The week starts and ends with PoE. Over the week you shall read the texts over and over again. Give yourself time towards the beginning of the coursework.  The layer of meaning that you find in the first reading in not sufficient.

Ordinary english words are used in special senses in Philosophy, it uses ordinary words into technical terms. Education, philosophy, it’s a clean

Knowledge: Justified, true, belief,

If you think about, what you knw , you must believe,

Building is being built, its justified ( you can see it ) you have perceptual evidence, you can sometimes hear it as well.

Take this with a pinch of salt.

There are multiple views that people have for the same thing.

Perhaps not, but there's a possibility.

It seems to be that the best way to learn swimming is to be thrown in the water and come out to the shore.

You have to Do philosophy that way. Since it is a practice, the more you do it, the better you get at it.

Lets just close for today.

An Analysis to the concept of education.
Title to be taken literally.

A concept is not a chemical compound, so the idea is the concept is something you already have.

What does into your understanding .

Terms = words

Term 'education' ( an item in language )

Concept is something that you have in mind.

Don't overthink.

Fully concentrated, hold it. Offficial way of doing it.

What you understand

Concept: Something we share.

Conception: different

How do we break down the concept?

We try to state criteria or conditions, same thing, under which the term education is used.

The conditions for the use of education to make sense.

Concept : analysed
Terms: Defined

You define an item in language.

Go an do your reading. Its okay!

But, it would be nice if you have a look at the board and do the reading.
