Where to begin from?

One Viewpoint:

From the dawn of humanity, whenever human being came into existence.. For how long have we been here. Around two million years ago.

Second:
Whenever settled agriculture starts that could be the dawn of History.

Third: When writing and urbanisation, civilisation start.

What in your opinion would be the start of History?

Fourth Viewpoint: The big bang theory. Could not the History have started from the time the universe got created?

From where does History start? It depends on what we want to look at. If

Dawn of Humanity

History: Study of the past

The Thumb: The distinguishing thing for the humans. 2 million years is just too big a period.

If geologists study the history of earth, who studies about humans?

2 million years is not our domain.

When we had a permanent address, that's agriculture.

Would a life of hunting and gathering be better?

Better, is subjective.

What would you define as better?

Insistence, different kinds of seeds. Varied diet. That's very important.

For a particular time, human beings enjoyed better health and lived longer during the hunting and gathering time.

Could we say we adopted better?

The quality of life.
How would you define quality.

Be loud, you're saying the right thing. You tell me, I’ll amplify!

We have become greedy and are overconsuming.
Everybody is assured good, nutrition and tasty food.

Quality of life: health, education et cetera…

After settled agriculture started, was that better?

The idea of comfort. A more comfortable life…..

Stashing away food and berries…

How many blueberries do you have? ( Blueberry raid )

In the book Sapiens, toiling in agriculture was more than hunting-gathering.

Limited kind of food that they ate due to agriculture, seasonal food.

There must have been some rational in moving towards agriculture.
The predictability, the reliability.

Growing of food, division of labour, spare time, other creative things becoming possible.

The dietary component and its variety got killed with agriculture.

But we wanted security, division of labour and we got it. We got private property, which indeed brought us more security.

Getting other things is easier than making property.

There's a whole lot of inheritance because of which we are here where we are.

Settling Down: Neolithic age, big revolution.

8000 to 10000 years ago.

Historians are ra*****ls. They say that it’s the job of the archaeologists.

When writing starts, civilisation starts, is that where history begins?

History grows reversibly. Its continuously. Pre-History.

When writing and urbanisation starts that's where History starts.

His Story, why not her story

So how does non-sense work.

I have a friend. He is a biophysist at DU. He thinks of himself a musician. He does classical hindustani. Formally trained in the rampur gharana by someone called ustad..khan.. Those purile kind of oneliners. He is sitting by ground. Shu, what are you doing?

" Bade kalakaar ko vinamra aur moddy hona chahiye". A big artist should be modest and moody.

Safdar Hashmi, gets killed in 1989, by goons. Did plays at Jan Natya Manch, CPI-M's theatre wing.

We are travelling in MP, all communists trace their ideological lineage back to Bhagat Singh. There's a place in Mandu. A fort by the side of the lake. You have programmes. Shu is the key guy, coz he is doing singing etc. He decides to be moody. His friend started more non-sense than Shu.
We should lit 1000s of lamps  and you should give us a hindutani recital.

And then the nonsense proceeded. We will be doing the same thing for fifteen days.

Shu: Where is the next place?

The more non-sense you talk, the more sense comes to the conversation,

The beginning of civilisation, the beginning

Reflective Writing, activity room.

Writing and urbanisation are the distinguishing characteristics of History.

Mesopotamian and Egyptian are the oldest civilisations.

Indus valley civilisation.

The other thing is,

Indus valley civilisation script has not been deciphered yet.

The seals and symbols are there. Something is written on them.

Indus Valley Civilisation: Category of Pre-History

Reground yourself if you think you are the oldest civilisation.

Kids have the tendency, " I was first. "

There were others who had it better than us.

Origins of human race, where did it all start.

Africa has been considered the cradle of human race

Studies on migration: 1/3 of humans don't live where

Somewhere in Africa, we've come a long way. Its pointless to say , Go back to where you came from.

So that's about civilisations. Then comes the task of History.

The Greeks and the Romans wrote. 300 years before Vedas.

You cram the Vedas, it went on and on and on orally till it was written.

When it comes to history, the father is Herodotus. He gave us example about how to write history.

Let's write something which we have been participants in rather than just hearsay. Herodotus. …dites,

History is what you've noticed, what you've seen.

So apparently, History is what you've seen and it’s the important people who are literate, Greece, that civilisation thrived on slavery, slaves weren't literate.
History became a game which was played only by the elite. The history of the elite; the wars, the treaties, the victories.

In the case of India, even though Vedas get written around the first century but the Vedas' aren't History. You can derive some ways of how people were living from them. But Vedas are prayers to God. And hence in India , they say, the first effort to record the past as a narrative, starts somewhere in the Harsha's time, Rajtarangini, 1200 years ago we start talking about history in a narrative style.

And a lot of things got written in the mideval period thereafter. The rulers who were Turkish by origin, they brought narrative history from Arab. But it was still person centric, ruler centric.

Different narratives can be seen. Tuglaq transfers his capital from Delhi to Devanagari. This is what historians tend to like. A single event of any process/event is in the nature of chamchagiri. Its laziness of the mind. It's only when you get to write anything about anything , anything bothering you today.. Any important event….

The Karnataka elections…. Narratives came out even there. The Sidaramiya said we have more votes than BJP has. We have more votes that we got in 2013. The disdain with which we are treated…

He has a narrative. The dominant narrative was that you don't the numbers.. The other narrative was how the government was cobbled together. The Constitution talks in a particular way.

2011 and 2013

HR guys are good at something, which the previous government in Karnataka was not.

They will note down everything, eyes popping out. You turn your back on them and they throw the paper in the dustbin.

If I were to write the history of those times…

Next expansion, your name will be there as a cabinet minister.

Karnataka Politics.

Different narratives.

History of this place.

I don't know about Development classes.

Let's attempt of history of Majority of more young women than men.

1. Less number of male members applied.
2. Education is gendered, atleast at school level. Teaching is feminised. ( The social explanation )
3. Education isn't a lucrative profession.
4. Affordable education.

History… Narrative…

What is it about Kerala? Maharashtra? That gets people to APU?

Kerala has a high Human Development Index.

Is it possible that institutions in your state are not working properly, probably the diversity of courses is minimum.
Qualification for Marriage!

For every opinion, there's a counter opinion

There's a push factor.

Why are you here?

Gulf opportunities have reduced, maybe.

Safety issues.

Hearsay. ( Second order of explanation )

Less educational opportunities in home state.

Soochana, Gyan.

Regular courses are not there in the home state.

The curriculum at APU is richer.

They have come here to fulfil your passion, we have come here to find our passion, to find the spark.
Write a rap on that!

People have not heard of MA. Nandaguru, Sawle. People laugh when they know that I am pursuing MA from Bengaluru.

Maharashtra and Kerala, weren't really the most developed educationally.
There was this nature of… in the way education has percolated during the colonial times.
Bengal was were the British started. Bengalis Vs. Abhadra ( chotamanush ) ,
They get education first, so called modern British education, the Bhadralog.

Anyone from Odisha, Bihar, Assam, NE state.

When we the middle class people talk at our home, don't we say,
Yeh bade eka hai, clever hai.

In the Madras presidency, Brahmins were ahead by leaps and bounds.

Tamils may not be eating fish. They are altogether very aggressive in pursuing their goals.

Here in Blore, I have on my laptop and thesis, in which how the K Brahmins and T Brahmin contested to get the attention of the Mysore maharaja. I don't know about the Bombay presidency. You probably have Jyotiba Phule.

They never had the chota log syndrome that was there in the Bengal and Madras presidency.

UP. A very brahminised place. And its there that the education was …..

Punjab…..

Education comes, it isn't education for all… We've opened school, come. It's usually Khatri's and Arora's . And some of them write Madan. They are the one's who'll get education first. Inme bada eka hai. But then this is the story of making of our Indian middle class.

So it'll be a rarity to find people from the reserved catergories of the government.
